Het prehistorische leven is al niet makkelijk en nu heeft de arme Atouk tot overmaat van ramp ook nog eens liefdesverdriet. Als de kleinste en zwakste holbewoner van zijn stam kan hij het hart van de mooie Lana niet winnen en wordt zelfs door stamhoofd Tonda verbannen uit de grot. Gedwongen om rond te trekken door de wildernis maakt Atouk nieuwe vrienden. Als ze zijn treurige verhaal willen ze hem allemaal helpen om weer terug te komen bij zijn stam. Voor hij het in de gaten heeft is Atouk leider geworden van zijn eigen clan van rare snuiters! Met zijn nieuwe manschappen heeft Atouk maar één doel voor ogen: Tonda van zijn troon stoten en Lana er aan haar haren bijslepen!
